23 Doors to Go!

The countdown to Christmas day has begun! 23 doors on the advent calendar to go!  Today’s post is a game that you can play with your family (I have made this game up).

It is called: Elf, and the aim of the game is to find out which card is the elf. You are all Santa Claus, and you are trying to find out which elf is not doing his job.

Set Up:

Place a random card without looking at it in between the two jokers.

Evenly divide up the cards between the players (any spare cards must be turned face up and shown to all players).

Write a list of all of the cards in the game for each player.

How to play:

Looking down at your cards, you can now exclude cards off of your list by crossing them off (make sure that other players do not know which cards you have crossed off).

Each turn, (starting with the youngest player and moving clockwise) call out a suit (hearts, diamonds, clubs or spades) or number that you need information on. All other players must show you a card of that suit/number (if they have any) to you in secret by giving it to you face down.

Every full round, once all players have given (insert number of players -1) cards and received (insert number of players -1) cards, all players must guess the elf card.

However, you must decide when you are certain enough to guess and flip over the card. If you flip the card over (making sure other players don’t see) and you guess wrong, you are out of the game; and must show all of your cards to the other players.

The first player to guess the card correctly wins the game (unless you are playing the following point system, in which case they get 7 points). If nobody gets that card correct, then the person who guesses that correct number gets a point, and whoever guessed the correct suit gets a point. You can play in rounds of three or first to ten points.

Tips:

You may give players cards that they have given you if it suits the information that they are looking for (henceforth contributing no information to them and making their turn worthless).

Make sure to keep on crossing off cards that you have seen. Make a guess when you are certain enough to have a good chance of winning.

If a player guesses a card, and then is out; then you can cross off that card from your list.

Remember to keep a poker face. As every full round each player has to guess (even if they don’t decide to flip the card/elf over), they can glean information off of you and rule that card out by your expression.

You don’t always have to guess a card that you do not know, this will throw the other players off of the trial of that card.

Remember that you can glean information off of others.

Final Note:

If the play becomes rather slow and boring, you can al decide that each round you must show a card face up for all others to see. This will make the game faster (along with reducing the number of points required to win).

That is it for today, I really hope that you have enjoyed; and comment down below if you have played the game!
