Now, I know it is really early in the year to be thinking about exams, but now is the perfect time to think about them; as now is the best time to start revising if you have GCSEs’ coming up. So, here is another section of my book – set for release very soon. Enjoy!
A Short Extract from How to: School
How to Not Fail Exams
Oh my God. The teacher’s giving out revision sheets. Oh no. I’m going to fail. I don’t understand any of this. What if I fail and I get a 3- on my report? This exam means everything! If I fail, I’m stupid and I don’t deserve to be at this school –
Stop. Right. There. Can you see that that’s really unhelpful to yourself? With time, patience and practice, you’ll learn that these thoughts are not going to help you in the slightest.
I’m going to break this down into separate points.
Firstly, that one test is not the be-all and end-all. I know that you want to do well but you won’t always ace everything and sometimes, no matter how much you revise, there’s that unexpected question that you don’t know how to answer. If you don’t do as well as you’d hoped, don’t start beating yourself up over it. One exam is not worth all of that stress and negativity.
