Welcome back to another section on my book, How to: School! It has been two weeks since your last instalment, and so I have decided to give you a section on a topic generally left unmentioned about school : the canteen.
Now, this topic may not help you out with top tips on how to thrive in school, but it certainly allows you to survive. As much as the long ques to get food may dive you crazy, there is still so much more that a student should know about their schools’ canteen. Make sure to subscribe so that you don’t miss any future instalments!
A Short Extract from How to: School
How To Use (and not Abuse) the Canteen
The rumours of terrible canteen food aren’t true, so don’t panic! Luckily, they’ve drastically changed the menus from when your parents were at school. If you’ve had school dinners at primary school and your memories of them are filled with nightmares of bullet peas, don’t be put off! Canteens are usually full of a variety of foods, from snacks to sandwiches to hot meals. You’ll find that it’s generally really nice and many students choose to have lunch and break from getting food in the canteen.
Depending on your school, you will need a PIN number/fingerprint registered in order to purchase food. This will be done at the start of the year so that you can start getting food from your canteen straight away. There might be a machine so that you can check how much money is on your account. Your parents will probably have set up an account on websites such as ParentPay or know about any other ways of paying for what you buy.
